How to hide your VM?

I had a scammer that knew exactly where to look to see I was using a VM. He opened File Explorer and right-clicked on a file and chose “open with”. At the top of the list of applications to open a file was “Default Host Application” with the VMWare icon. To change it so that will not show up i had to change a program in the “C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Tools” folder. the file is called VMwareHostOpen.exe. I changed it to VMwareHostOpen-bak.exe. Now that choice is not displayed.

Thanks for the lecture; for a while I was wondering if and how you could tell that a connected machine was a VM.

BTW. If I find the time I will look if VirtualBox has the same behaviour/solution and let everyone know.

i use virtual box so not an issue
