Aside from reporting numbers, what can tech unsavvy people like myself do to help with these crooks?

Welcome to TSU! Aside from reporting numbers you can use tools like a fake person generator to create fake alias’s and wast their time while they try to scam your fake identity. Also having a virtual machine is not too complicated. If you need a simple tutorial pm me.
