TSU update! Removing the Dead Numbers and License Key categories! + More

Hello everyone! As stated in this post here: Scambait question category migration and deletion. I am in the process of trying to make TSU simple to use. A major part of that process is simplifying the amount of categories that TSU has. Today I am officially removing the “Dead Numbers” and “License Key Scams” categories. The removal of the dead numbers category was set in motion back on 4/27/25. You can see this post here: What to do with dead numbers!.

I am removing the “Dead Numbers” category because mostly it was never a system that got fully used by the community. People would simple reply to posts with dead numbers saying “dead number”, etc. Instead of using the proper flagging procedure that was outlined. With this update I have modified the post detailing how to flag dead numbers to just showing how to flag numbers: How to Flag posts.

All “Dead Numbers” posts have been migrated into the Scammers > Other category. These posts are all different types of scams so to go through and to it on a per post basis and put it to the right category would take FOREVER, so I am doing it this way.

The “License Key Scams” category will be migrated into Scammers > Tech support scams since that is the closest match. I am removing this category since the last post made in it was done in 2020 and this scam is pretty much obsolete. Either way, if someone does run into this scam it fit’s into the Scammers > Tech support scams category to.

I have some more changes I will be doing over the coming months. I am doing these slowly as to not cause confusion and so as the changes are made people can get ued to the new way of doing things.

One more small note, user registartions will be kept on manual approval. Still getting lots of bots trying to join the forum and I like this new way of doing things. Check this post for more info: Temporary account manual approval.

Can we require all posts (with s) to have the number in the title? Most people get the same messages from “Apple” or “Norton” and having the # in the post makes it easy to prevent dupe posts.

Also: The problem with flagging dead numbers is that sometimes it’s just the scam call center shutting down for the day, or sometimes I suspect I’ve been blocked, or in some cases scammers block VOIP numbers so I’m not sure.

That is not something that I am looking to enforce and would bring up the same issues that lead to the removal of the dead numbers category.

If you search the number in the top right it will also look into the content of the post and bring up any relevant results, it does not need to be in the title of the post to appear.
